The Met Office has confirmed "very warm" conditions later this week with a 25C heatwave set to hit - and three parts of England poised to SIZZLE. Jim Dale, from British Weather Services said he expects conditions to be "very pleasant".

Mr Dale, a leading weather forecaster, explained the sunshine will "continue for most parts on Friday, Saturday [and] Sunday". He added that "somewhere might get 25C" in the wake of the first of the two May bank holidays, which took place last weekend.

Mr Dale namechecked the south east as a hotspot for the heatwave, while other reports say northern England and the Home Counties will also take the brunt of the heat, alongside East Anglia, as the mercury moves through the gears.

The best of the weather is just days away and will hit on May 11, forecasters have projected. Looking ahead in an outlook for the second half of this week, the Met Office said: "High pressure dominates for the rest of the week, bringing settled conditions and lots of dry weather. Feeling very warm with light winds. Mild overnight with fog patches possible."

Forecasters have also predicted, from May 12 onwards: "Sunday will likely be the last widely dry and fine day for a while, with warm sunshine for most, especially in parts of the south and east where temperatures similar to preceding days, around the mid-20's - warmer than average for the time of year.

"However, coastal eastern areas could be cloudier and cooler, with an onshore breeze taking the edge off the higher temperatures. After Sunday, the weather is expected to switch back to become changeable across the country, with further spells of rain and showers expected.

"Rainfall amounts could be above average in most areas. It is also possible that rain will be heavy at times, and any showers could turn thundery. Temperatures are also expected to fall closer to average for May."
