A jury has been selected in the trial of Sean "P Diddy" Combs, and many were turned away for various reasons.
The disgraced music mogul is facing five charges across three federal indictments, including sex trafficking, conspiracy racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. Additionally, he vehemently denies all allegations of wrongdoing against him, including those alleged in civil lawsuits.
Jury selection for his trial started on Monday, May 5, and was supposed to conclude on Friday, May 9. However, it continued until this morning on May 12, just before opening statements are set to take place.
The 12-person jury and six alternates are said to be made up of 12 men and six women, though their distribution isn't completely known. While the jury is promised anonymity - meaning their names and identities will be kept between the court, prosecution, and defense - some information about those jurors who were dismissed is available.
One juror, according to the AP, said he would lose 30 percent of his income while on the jury. Prosecutor Maurene Comey said the man didn't seem bothered, which "made us worried that he had an agenda and was trying to get on the jury," which led to his dismissal.
A teacher who was dismissed today admitted that she had a criminal past. That past being that when she was 16 years old, she stole a wand from Harry Potter World at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The woman was reprimanded and required to pay a fine for her petty larceny.
Some jurors, as of last week, who were not dismissed include someone who filled out the juror questionnaire incorrectly the first time because he was watching the newest season of Disney+'s Star Wars spin-off, Andor.
One individual had to be let go after she revealed she was a marketing officer at a book publishing company. The company is working with Al B. Sure! - who shares a child, Quincy, with Kim Porter, Diddy's ex, and whom Diddy later adopted.
Another claimed that he had a hard time watching violent videos, specifically noting that skateboarding accidents were hard to watch. This could sway him, as the court ruled that the leaked CNN video of Diddy beating up his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway will be allowed as evidence.
