Braves legend Andruw Jones named manager of Team Netherlands at 2026 World Baseball Classic

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Braves legend Andruw Jones has been named the manager of Team Netherlands at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The Willemstad, Curaçao, native has been a member of Team Netherlands at every edition of the World Baseball Classic. He played for the Netherlands in 2006 and 2013 and was a bench coach in 2017 and 2023.

“It’s a tremendous honor to manage the team Kingdom of the Netherlands in the WBC,” Jones said. ”I’ve worn the uniform as a player and coach, and now being trusted to manage the team is a great honor. Can’t wait to put a great team together with my coaching staff.”

Curaçao is one of the four countries that makes up the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including Aruba, the Netherlands and Sint Maarten. Players from all four countries are eligible for Team Netherlands.

The Netherlands finished 13th at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, a far cry from their fourth-place finish in 2017.

The Netherlands will compete in Pool D at the 2026 tournament. They will face Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Israel and Nicaragua at loanDepot park in Miami.
