Two people have been killed and two police officers were injured in a stabbing attack in the Netherlands.
Emergency services were called to a residential street in Hoofddorp, northern Holland, at around 6am local time.
Politie Eenheid Noord-Holland, the local police force, confirmed two people died after being ‘involved in a violent incident’.
Police fired their guns during the incident, with two officers suffering injuries and being taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the force said: ‘The police are investigating the fatal stabbing incident.
‘The National Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the use of force by the police.

‘Uses of force by the police in which people are (seriously) injured or which have a fatal outcome are always investigated by the National Criminal Investigation Department.’
The force said the incident happened in a home on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan.
Pictures show a police car left ‘smeared with blood’ and blood spatters.

A large cordon has been put in place while police investigate at the scene, blocking the street.
Several ambulances and police vehicles were pictured on the road outside the home.
Black screens have been put up around the home, and forensics officers are investigating at the scene.
