An alternative rock band is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its biggest album by unearthing songs from the vault.
311 released “90s Throwback EP: Vol 1″ on Friday, the first of a two-part collection featuring previously unreleased live recordings. Volume 1 features “Purpose,” “Down (Live in ‘97),” “Feels So Good (Live in ‘96),” while Volume 2 — coming June 27 — includes the studio version of “Down” with “All Mixed Up (Live in 1997)” and “T&P Combo (Live in 1996).”
All of the original versions of the songs were featured on 311’s self-titled (Blue) album, which came out in 1995. The live versions were recorded during the breakthrough album’s tour cycle at concerts in Portugal and Santa Barbara, California.
“Both volumes celebrate the timeless sound and enduring energy of 311’s early live shows—pressed, preserved, and remastered straight from the vault for longtime fans and new listeners alike. 311’s past never sounded more present," a press release said.
311 is also reissuing the 1995 album on July 11, including a 2-LP vinyl set with seven bonus tracks that will be available in two color variants. The 21-track collection brings together every song that was recorded by the band during the “Blue Album” sessions.
311 (pronounced “three-eleven”) is an alternative rock band known for its mix of rap, rock, funk and reggae on hits like “All Mixed Up,” “Down,” “Come Original,” “Amber,” “Beautiful Disaster” and a cover of The Cure’s “Love Song.” The Nick Hexum-led group released its 14th album last year.
The band will kick off its 2025 “Unity Tour” dates later this month with special guests Badflower and Sitting on Saturn. Concert tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster, StubHub, Seat Geek and Vivid Seats.
